The two monarchs who reigned when Shakespeare was alive were Elizabeth I and King James VI.  The black plague in 1593-1594 caused all the theatre companies to close down.  During that time, a famous playwright called Christopher Marlowe was also stabbed.  In Shakespeare’s times, poor husbands had to do different jobs according to the seasons, for example they have to do sowing in spring, making hay in summer and slaughtering in winter.  They also have to do fishing, hunting, hawking and other things.  The wives have to do normal housewives things like cleaning the house, taking care of the children.  They also buy food in the market and take care of the small yard or garden they have.
